Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas line embodies the brand’s refined take on a luxury sports watch. Tracing its lineage to the 222, a model released in 1977 to mark the brand’s 222nd anniversary, the Overseas underwent a significant redesign in 2016. This update introduced a range of complications and a versatile system for interchangeable straps and bracelets. In 2019, the tourbillon complication was added to the collection. Following previous editions in steel, white gold, and rose gold, Vacheron Constantin has now unveiled a new version crafted entirely from titanium. This 2024 model maintains the signature Overseas blue dial but features a new material.

Titanium, which is 30% more resistant than steel and only half its weight, is not new to the Overseas collection. Previous limited editions, like the Overseas Everest models created for mountaineer Cory Richards, used titanium elements alongside other materials. In 2002, the brand released its first all-titanium Overseas Tourbillon skeletonised model, setting the stage for this year’s version with its solid dial and tourbillon aperture.

The 2024 Overseas Tourbillon is entirely clad in titanium, from the case and integrated bracelet to the crown and bezel. Although titanium is challenging to work with, it imparts a sportier, more technical aesthetic to the watch. Special attention was given to achieving the high-quality finish that Vacheron Constantin is known for, emphasising the geometric shapes of the case with contrasting finishes. This model retains the same specifications as previous editions, featuring a 42.5mm diameter and a thickness of 10.39mm, with a water resistance of 50 meters.

The Overseas family is known for its flagship blue colour. The dial of this new model features a translucent blue lacquer that shifts from dark to light depending on the lighting conditions. Enhancing its sporty character, the applied white gold indices and hands are coated with blue Super-LumiNova, and the flange has a double-minute track. A large aperture at 6 o’clock displays the tourbillon regulator. While the focus is on the new titanium material, a different dial colour might have provided additional distinction for this model.

Inside, the watch is powered by the ultra-thin calibre 2160, which has a thickness of just 5.65mm. The 22k gold peripheral rotor winds the barrel, providing an 80-hour power reserve. The movement is decorated to Vacheron Constantin’s exacting standards, featuring circular graining, Côtes de Genève on the bridges, chamfered and polished screws, and a hand-polished tourbillon bar.

Versatility is a key feature of the Overseas Tourbillon. It comes with an integrated titanium bracelet equipped with a triple-blade folding clasp and a comfort adjustment system. This can be easily swapped for the blue calfskin leather or blue rubber straps included in the box, without the need for tools. The Overseas Tourbillon in titanium will be available exclusively at Vacheron Constantin Boutiques.
