Van Cleef & Arpels introduces two exquisite additions to their Poetic Complications collection, the Lady Arpels Jour Nuit and the Lady Jour Nuit. These timepieces not only serve the function of timekeeping but also embody the art of storytelling through their design and mechanical complexity.

“Craftsmanship has lain at the heart of our every initiative for more than a century at Van Cleef & Arpels. It defines our jewelry and High Jewelry creations, where we perfect traditional techniques while also incorporating innovations.” CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels, Nicolas Bos

The new offerings are available in two sizes: a 33mm Lady Jour Nuit and a 38mm Lady Arpels Jour Nuit. These watches come with the option of an alligator strap or a diamond-set bracelet, enhancing their visual appeal and making them conversation pieces. The development of these watches spanned three years, focusing on achieving a refined aesthetic and mechanical excellence. The hallmark of these pieces is their 24-hour rotating disc module, a proprietary development by Van Cleef & Arpels, which animates the dial with a celestial ballet of the moon and sun chasing each other across the sky.

This effect is achieved through meticulous design elements. The dial features a Mother-Of-Pearl horizon shroud; on the 38mm model, this is executed in pearl white, while the 33mm version sports a painted blue with a guilloché pattern that simulates the horizon. Behind this horizon lies a dial crafted from Murano Aventurine Glass, which undergoes a complex manufacturing process. The glass is heated to 2,192°F (1,200°C) and mixed with ore in a crucible to achieve a sparkling deep blue hue that mimics a starry night sky. After cooling, the glass is carefully broken and cut to form the dial base.

Embedded within the Aventurine Glass dial are representations of the sun and moon. For the 38mm model, the sun is adorned with snow-set yellow sapphires, while the 33mm version features a yellow gold sun with a guilloché effect. Both models have a diamond-set moon, enhancing the dial’s luminosity and allure.

The case back of the watches also features decorative elements that continue the theme of celestial storytelling. Visible through the sapphire crystal is an oscillating rotor decorated with a polished starry sky and shooting stars. A fairy, applied using the enamel decal technique, overlooks this scene, adding a whimsical touch to the intricate mechanical movements.
