The Centrale, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects
The Centrale, a 71-story residential tower in Midtown Manhattan, offers 124 luxury homes with state-of-the-art amenities, designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. ShareThe Centrale stands proudly in Manhattan’s iconic Midtown, adjacent to the Waldorf Astoria and Chrysler Building—a strikingly slender residential tower reaching 71 stories and housing 124 luxury homes, boasting state-of-the-art lifestyle amenities. The tower’s design seamlessly blends classic 20th Century Deco with biophilic shapes and natural materials, offering an inspiring home in the heart of the city.
Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, The Centrale combines classic Art Deco architecture with contemporary elements. The tower features a reflective glass façade accented with terracotta chevrons, and the playful folds and pleats of natural stone along the entrances anchor the tower to the street. Textured fins and perforated chevron screens shape the otherwise open base from the ground upward.
Residents enter through a dramatic Porte-Cochère spanning from 50th Street to 49th Street. The Lobby, with its double-height ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, is attended by a full-time doorman and concierge. The Great Room, boasting 36-foot ceilings, features a floral-inspired art installation by Pascale Girardin and a feature wall made from quarter-matched Nestos marble. The Club Room offers an intimate space for casual gatherings, warmed by a fireplace and featuring a ceramic art installation and floor-to-ceiling windows. The all-season Club Terrace is illuminated by a celestial light installation, making it a perfect place for conversation and celebration.
Champalimaud Design envisioned the interiors of each residence to express worldly sophistication and timeless originality, blending the classic feel of an era bygone with modern elements. Select residences feature grand, open Living and Dining Rooms with striking views of Manhattan and Central Park, framed by generous floor-to-ceiling windows. The Master Bath features Bianco Dolomiti floors, radiant heat, freestanding soaking tubs, Marno Illusion marble tiled walls, Kallista sinks, Dornbracht fixtures, and rift-cut white oak cabinetry.
Elegance soars to new heights with the Tower Residences, beginning from the 58th floor. These three- and four-bedroom residences with home offices showcase sweeping 360-degree skyline, Central Park, and East River views from every room and are accessed via private elevator vestibules. The Duplex Penthouse, set on The Centrale’s two penultimate floors, offers panoramic views with impressively scaled interiors, featuring private keyed vestibules, a kitchen with a windowed breakfast room, a library with a gas fireplace, an 800+ square foot primary suite, a grand staircase, and an interior elevator. Personal consultations in the on-site Giorgetti showroom allow for customized packages for every home.
“Sophisticated Craft is the driving theme of our integrated interior and building design, from the volumetric compositions of amenity spaces and strategically planned residential layouts to the podium’s folding metal screen frontages that rise and transform into a chiselled tower of terracotta and glass joining the Manhattan skyline.”—Craig Copeland, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C
The full-length 75-foot lap pool is enveloped in earthy travertine and soft lighting cast from a hanging artisanal fixture.
