An exclusive Mercedes-Maybach S-Class for the 150th anniversary of Robbe & Berking
Maybach celebrates Robbe & Berking's 150th anniversary with an exclusive S-Class, featuring a nautical blue and red paint finish, inspired by the iconic SPHINX 12mR yacht. ShareTo mark the 150th anniversary of the Flensburg silver manufacturer Robbe & Berking, Mercedes-Maybach has introduced an exclusive S-Class model inspired by the legendary SPHINX 12mR yacht. This special edition car epitomizes the craftsmanship, elegance, and shared values of heritage-rich brands Mercedes-Maybach and Robbe & Berking.
The SPHINX, a renowned racing yacht built in 1939 and known as the “night-blue beauty,” was the first classic wooden yacht restored by Robbe & Berking. This restoration project led to the founding of the Robbe & Berking Classics shipyard in 2008. The Mercedes-Maybach S 680 anniversary vehicle mirrors the SPHINX’s distinctive colour scheme with a two-tone paint finish: nautical blue metallic on the upper section and MANUFAKTUR patagonia red bright on the lower section, separated by a fine MANUFAKTUR opalite white metallic pinstripe to match the yacht’s waterline.
The vehicle’s interior features crystal white nappa leather with orion grey topstitching and wood trim with aluminum decorative strips, reminiscent of a ship’s deck. The seats, headliner, door panels, and storage compartment are upholstered in this luxurious material. Orion grey stitching contrasts elegantly with the white leather, while the wood walnut trim with light-colored aluminum strips enhances the nautical theme. The nappa leather cushions in the rear are customized with silver grey pearl accents and MAYBACH embossing, rounded off by piping in silver grey pearl nappa leather.
Additional comfort features include electric comfort doors at the rear, MANUFAKTUR door sill trims with red illuminated MAYBACH lettering, and the Burmester® high-end 4D surround sound system. The MBUX high-end rear-seat entertainment system and a cooling compartment with two silver-plated champagne goblets from Robbe & Berking further elevate the luxury experience. These goblets, available since 2002, add a special touch to the Mercedes-Maybach models and are increasingly popular with customers. This exclusive vehicle has already been reserved and is not available for sale.
“Like the yacht SPHINX, our exclusive Mercedes-Maybach S-Class anniversary vehicle epitomises craftsmanship, elegance, and attention to detail. We congratulate Robbe & Berking on their anniversary and look forward to continuing our successful collaboration,” said Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
The SPHINX racing yacht, part of the famous “12 Metre R class,” is an epitome of classic yacht design and a dream for sailing enthusiasts. Built in 1939 by the Abeking & Rasmussen boatyard, the SPHINX served as a club ship for the North German Regatta Association and later as a training ship for the German Navy. After changing hands several times, she was restored to her original glory by Oliver Berking and two friends in 2005. This restoration project led to the establishment of Robbe & Berking Classics in 2008, a shipyard dedicated to preserving and restoring classic sailing yachts.
The collaboration between Mercedes-Maybach and Robbe & Berking highlights their shared passion for craftsmanship, the finest materials, and timelessly beautiful lines. “This wonderful anniversary vehicle is another sign of the friendship that has long connected Maybach and Robbe & Berking. We are also united by shared passions: Craftsmanship, the finest materials, and timelessly beautiful lines – on the road as well as on the water and on the table,” said Oliver Berking, Managing Director of Robbe & Berking GmbH.
This unique Mercedes-Maybach S-Class model, with its exquisite design and craftsmanship, stands as a testament to the enduring values of both brands. The SPHINX yacht and the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 anniversary vehicle are perfect embodiments of their commitment to excellence and innovation in their respective fields. The meticulous attention to detail, the choice of premium materials, and the dedication to preserving heritage while embracing modernity are evident in every aspect of this collaboration.
