Automobili Pininfarina recently unveiled a unique tribute to automotive design history with the Battista Cinquantacinque, inspired by the 1955 Lancia Florida. The name Cinquantacinque—Italian for 55—commemorates the year of the iconic Lancia Florida, designed by Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina, whose name graces Pininfarina’s fastest and most powerful Italian road car. The Battista Cinquantacinque showcases Blu Savoia Gloss bodywork paired with a contrasting Bianco Sestriere Gloss roof, mirroring the original Lancia Florida show car’s colour scheme.

The design of the Battista Cinquantacinque also reflects the aesthetic of the 1955 Lancia Florida, which was known for its innovative and sculptural design qualities. The Lancia Florida was a personal favourite of Pinin Farina himself and served as his daily driver throughout his career, now preserved as part of the Pininfarina SpA Collection in Cambiano, Torino. This connection to heritage is further emphasised in the Battista Cinquantacinque through unique inscriptions on the passenger door plate and the underside of the active rear wing, both marked with the ‘Cinquantacinque 55’ signature.

Dave Amantea, Chief Design Officer at Automobili Pininfarina, said: “This was a truly special and unique opportunity to design a car that plays homage to Pininfarina SpA’s heritage. The colour combination of the Battista Cinquantacinque is incredible and shows the vision Battista Farina had when he designed the Lancia Florida back in the early fifties. Not only that, but that very same model helped guide me when creating the PURA Vision design concept, a truly unique vehicle that sets the template for future models from Automobili Pininfarina.”

Under the hood, the Battista Cinquantacinque is engineered with cutting-edge technology, featuring four independent electric motors powered by a 120 kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering an astonishing 1,900hp and 2,340Nm of torque. This enables impressive performance metrics, such as acceleration from 0-100 kph in 1.86 seconds and 0-200 kph in 4.75 seconds, with a driving range of up to 476 km.

The interior of the hyper GT car is just as meticulously crafted, upholstered in bespoke Mahagoni (Poltrona Frau Heritage Leather), with detailing in elegant Brushed Anodised. This model is a nod to the past and a benchmark for the future, influencing the PURA Vision design concept, which outlines the design direction for future Automobili Pininfarina models. This influence is evident in shared design elements like the Lounge Doors on the PURA Vision, which echo Lancia Florida’s pillarless, rear-opening doors, enhancing accessibility and maintaining a modern aesthetic.
