Battista Targamerica retains the breath-taking performance of Italy’s most powerful road-legal car

Automobili Pininfarina has delivered the world’s first coach-built electric hypercar, the one-off Battista Targamerica, featuring a bespoke roofless design and a custom-built cigar humidor. Share

From the first sketch to its shimmering debut at Monterey Car Week, the Battista Targamerica has marked a milestone as the world’s first coach-built electric hypercar delivered to a client. Presented at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during car week, this one-off model exemplifies the brand’s philosophy of “Dream Cars, Made Real.” Commissioned by a well-known collector and existing Battista owner, the car is a fully personalized creation, reflecting the client’s tastes, history, and lifestyle, delivered by the master artisans at Automobili Pininfarina’s Cambiano atelier.

The Battista Targamerica stands out with its distinct design, highlighted by an open-top configuration that offers an unparalleled driving experience. The model features a striking silver and blue colour scheme and incorporates extensive re-engineering to adapt the carbon fibre bodywork and monocoque for its roofless profile. The car draws inspiration from one of Pininfarina’s most celebrated one-off designs, the 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider, created for Gianni Agnelli. Like its predecessor, the Battista Targamerica exudes simplicity and elegance while showcasing unique design elements, such as the horizontal feature lines on the rear luggage opening, paying homage to the Testarossa Spider.

The creation of this coach-built masterpiece began during the 2023 Monterey Car Week, and within a year, the concept evolved into a fully realized vehicle. Following its public debut at Monterey, the Battista Targamerica will be delivered to its commissioning client, taking its place among one of the world’s most distinguished collections of rare and performance-driven vehicles.

Every aspect of the Battista Targamerica is personalized to the client’s specifications. The car features a unique cigar holder and humidor, integrated into the cabin between the two seats. This bespoke element, crafted from aluminium and glass, exemplifies the fusion of luxury and technology, a core characteristic of Automobili Pininfarina’s design ethos. The humidor is backlit and colour-coordinated with the car’s five driving modes: Calma, Pura, Energica, Furiosa, and Carattere, represented by Green, Iconica Blu, Orange, Red, and Yellow hues, respectively.

According to Dave Amantea, Chief Design Officer at Automobili Pininfarina, “The Battista Targamerica is at the frontier of design. An exceptional vehicle that stands at the vanguard of performance and luxury. The gauntlet was thrown down for us to create something that uniquely represents the personality of this vehicle’s owner. This is the service we provide to clients, and the team has more than delivered. The result is our first coach-built one-off vehicle, a Targa that bears the badge of Automobili Pininfarina. Battista Targamerica will forever stand as a one-of-its-kind vehicle and will never be repeated.”

The exterior design is a showcase of precision and attention to detail. Finished in Argento Liquido Gloss, the body features Iconica Blu Gloss accents along the bodyside and aero wings, with hand-painted pinstripes across the rear underwing. The one-off ceramic-polished five-spoke alloy rims feature contrasting black anodized aluminium centre caps, complemented by the brushed and anodized jewellery pack and bespoke door plates. The car’s interior is equally luxurious, featuring tan leather upholstery, a black leather steering wheel, and bespoke headrests embossed with the Automobili Pininfarina “F” logo. A matching luggage set, finished in tan leather and embossed with the car’s silhouette, underscores the vehicle’s exclusivity.

The collaboration between the client and Automobili Pininfarina extended to the car’s name. The title “Battista Targamerica” references the open-top body style and the vehicle’s intended permanent home. Creating the Battista Targamerica required extensive expertise, drawing from decades of experience and the full spectrum of skills at Automobili Pininfarina’s Cambiano headquarters. The project combined bespoke design with advanced engineering, involving over 100 specialists from more than 20 nationalities.

The Battista Targamerica retains the exceptional performance of the original Battista, sharing the title of Italy’s most powerful road-legal car. With four independent electric motors and a 120 kWh lithium-ion battery, the hypercar delivers 1,900 hp and 2,340 Nm of torque. This allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under two seconds, reaching a top speed of over 300 km/h. Despite its open-top design, the car maintains the stability and performance expected of a hypercar, thanks to advanced engineering solutions.
