Expedition Motor Company (EMC) has established itself as a premier restorer of classic Geländewagens, bringing new life to these iconic vehicles. Since 2017, the company has meticulously restored over 160 G-Wagens from the 1990s, and now they’re taking their craft to new heights with the introduction of the 620GE.

This limited-edition restomod transforms the classic G-Wagen by replacing the original diesel powerplant with a muscular 6.2L LS3 V-8 engine. While detuned to a balanced 350 horsepower in its standard configuration, clients seeking additional performance can opt for tuning up to 430 horsepower.

“The 620GE restomod offers a wonderful package for our clients,” explains Alex Levin, founder of Expedition Motor Company. “It combines the same pedigree and customisation options as our 250GD with the power and drivability of a modern eight-cylinder. Anyone who loves the design of our G-Wagens and desires a beefier engine will be blown away by the 620GE.”

The transformation is comprehensive, requiring approximately 2,300 hours of restoration work per vehicle. Accommodating the powerful V-8 necessitates substantial mechanical upgrades, including a revamped suspension system and a Mercedes AMG braking package that delivers 48% more stopping power up front and 30% at the rear through enlarged ventilated rotors. A custom cooling system and double Cardan driveline ensure reliability and smooth operation.

While the exterior maintains the G-Wagen’s distinctive silhouette, the interior receives thoughtful modernization. Drivers enjoy wireless Apple CarPlay, a Harman 6.1 audio system, air conditioning, heated seats, and a backup camera—all while preserving the vehicle’s weatherproof durability that stays true to its go-anywhere heritage.

Customization remains central to EMC’s philosophy, with clients able to select from approximately 40 interior color options to create a truly personalized driving experience. With production limited to just six vehicles for 2025, the 620GE represents an exclusive opportunity for enthusiasts to own a thoroughly modernized classic. Pricing for these limited-edition restomods starts at $215,000, reflecting both the extensive work involved and the vehicle’s unique position in the market as a reimagined icon that blends vintage character with contemporary performance.
