Maserati bring to life two special series to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the MC12
Celebrating Maserati's 20-year racing legacy, the exclusive MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda editions, limited to just 20 units each, combine iconic design with cutting-edge performance. ShareMaserati recently celebrated its racing legacy with the introduction of the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda—two special series marking the 20th anniversary of Maserati’s return to competitive racing in 2004 with the iconic MC12, after a 37-year hiatus.
The MC12, originally launched as a road version and quickly becoming a benchmark in GT championships, inspired the development of the Maserati MC20 super sports car. This 100% Made in Italy vehicle marked a new era for Maserati in 2020, being the first model equipped with the innovative V6 Nettuno engine. The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, each limited to 20 units, boast special liveries and exclusive features inspired by the MC12 Stradale and MC12 GT1 Vitaphone respectively.

The MC20 Icona’s livery evokes memories of the MC12 Stradale from 2004, itself a tribute to the Maserati Trofeo Light, which competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona. This car drew inspiration from the Maserati Birdcage Type 61, produced between 1959 and 1961. The MC20 Icona features Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale livery, incorporating several elements from the Fuoriserie personalisation program, including the Maserati Fuoriserie logo in Bianco Audace on the side and the Italian flag logo on the door under the MC20 lettering.
The chrome-plated wheels with a specific Trident design feature silver hubcaps with a contrasting blue Trident logo, while the brake callipers are painted blue. Additional features include auto-dimming mirrors and a carbon fibre engine cover.
The MC20 Leggenda’s history is reflected in its name and its livery in Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte, echoing the award-winning MC12 GT1 under the Vitaphone Racing team. This car holds a record of three victories and two runner-up placements in the 24 Hours of Spa. The MC20 Leggenda includes Fuoriserie features such as Nero Lucido trident wheels with Nero Opaco and Trident Digital Mint hubcaps, a yellow Trident logo on the grille, doors, and C-pillar, and black-painted brake callipers.
The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda commemorate the 20th anniversary of a golden age for Maserati on the track, highlighted by the legendary MC12 GT1’s 27 victories in FIA GT Championships between 2004 and 2010. The MC12 GT1 also claimed three wins at the 24 Hours of Spa, six Teams’ championships with Vitaphone Racing, five Drivers’ championships, including two FIA GT1 World Championships, and two Constructors’ championships for Maserati.
Both special series come with racing interiors, featuring lightweight 4-way monocoque racing seats with Trident embroidery and model-specific “Icona” or “Leggenda” inscriptions. The interior also includes a Sonus Faber sound system, carbon fibre interior package, electronic limited-slip differential (E-LSD), suspension lifter, blind spot, and rear cross path systems, and mats in the front and boot.
The MC12 Stradale, launched in 2004, reignited Maserati’s racing passion. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and powered by a Ferrari-derived V12 engine, it remains the fastest production car Maserati has ever produced, achieving a top speed of 330 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. A limited production run resulted in only 50 units of these vehicles.
