Red Bull’s RB17 hypercar can dash out 1200 horsepower from a V-10 hybrid powertrain
The RB17 Hypercar debuted at Goodwood Festival of Speed boasts a carbon fiber monocoque, a naturally aspirated V10 engine, over 1,200 HP, and a top speed of 350 kph. ShareRed Bull Advanced Technologies, the high-performance engineering arm of Red Bull Racing Group, today announced details of its first hypercar project designed, developed, and manufactured entirely in-house. Created by Adrian Newey, Chief Technical Officer of Oracle Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Advanced Technologies, the RB17 is a two-seat hypercar optimized for the ultimate on-track driving experience. Just 50 RB17s will be made at the Red Bull Technology Campus in Milton Keynes, with production scheduled to commence in 2025.
The RB17 boasts a carbon fibre monocoque chassis and is powered by a semi-stressed, mid-mounted, naturally aspirated V10 engine that reaches 15,000 rpm. This powertrain delivers over 1,200 horsepower, transferred to the rear wheels via a carbon fibre gearbox. The Hypercar, weighing under 900 kg, achieves F1-equivalent lap times and top speeds exceeding 350 kph. Despite its extreme performance capabilities, the RB17 remains user-friendly and easy to operate.
Adrian Newey shared his thoughts on the project: “I had been mulling around the idea to take on the challenge to design our very own Hypercar, from concept to delivery, for many years and it has been a magnificent project and journey. For it to finally be the day we pull the covers off and see the birth of the RB17, is truly remarkable. The RB17 Hypercar embraces everything we stand for: undeniable power, speed, and beauty. It is very adaptable in its abilities, and we made sure to design it as a two-seater so that the thrill of driving at F1 speeds can be enjoyed with a friend or partner.”
Christian Horner expressed his excitement about the project, stating: “We are excited to reveal the RB17 at Goodwood Festival of Speed, a project that is one of the most authentic and exciting that Red Bull Advanced Technologies has embarked upon to date. With 20 years of legacy in the world of F1 to draw from, and as a performance-centred organization, it only made sense for us to design our own Hypercar from the ground up. Combining technical innovation, achievement, and emotional appeal, the RB17 is a landmark car. I’m very proud of the Team and am delighted to see it make its world debut. We expect the RB17 to be a future classic.”
Red Bull Advanced Technologies is responsible for every aspect of the RB17’s development, from initial concept to final delivery. Production is limited to just 50 units, making the RB17 an extremely exclusive offering. The bespoke nature of the RB17 allows customers to personalize everything from the exterior paint colour to the interior materials and numerous other details, ensuring a unique and tailored ownership experience.
