Rolls-Royce has unveiled the Black Badge Ghost Series II, an evolution of the brand’s most powerful, agile, and driver-focused motor car. The Black Badge series, known as Rolls-Royce’s daring alter ego, caters to a rebellious clientele seeking bold Bespoke customizations. This redesigned model features a high-performance 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, delivering unprecedented power, precision, and agility. It combines advanced technologies, including all-wheel-drive and all-wheel-steering, with a daring aesthetic that makes the Black Badge Ghost Series II the most dynamic and technical Rolls-Royce ever created.
The exterior of the Black Badge Ghost Series II exudes power through subtle yet impactful design changes. For the first time, the lower grille has been redesigned with two darkened chrome strips that run along functional air ducts, accentuating the vertical stance of the iconic Pantheon Grille. The black chrome detailing, a signature of Black Badge models, is applied to the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot, the grille, and the side-mounted Badge of Honour. Each component is precision-polished by hand to achieve a deep mirror-black finish, and the door handles have been given a black finish, further enhancing the car’s dark, assertive aesthetic. The boldest visual statement comes in the form of new 22-inch part-polished, seven-spoke forged wheels.
At the heart of the Black Badge Ghost Series II is the high-power V12 engine, which delivers 29PS more power and 50NM more torque than the standard Ghost Series II. The engine’s full potential is unlocked with the ‘Low’ button on the gear selection stalk, increasing gearshift speeds by 50% when the throttle is pressed to 90%. This feature, along with a more pronounced exhaust note, gives the driver a thrilling yet refined experience without compromising Rolls-Royce’s signature smoothness.
Inside, Black Badge Ghost Series II offers a dark, technical ambience that reflects its performance-oriented nature. The new Clock Cabinet is a subtle yet striking feature, housing an analogue timepiece and a black chrome Spirit of Ecstasy figurine, set against the upgraded Central Information Display. The interface now integrates Rolls-Royce’s advanced SPIRIT operating system, enhancing the driving experience with cutting-edge digital features.
Craftsmanship is central to the interior, with the use of Technical Carbon, a meticulously crafted finish that involves laying carbon and metallic fibers over a black Bolivar wood base. This intricate process creates a diamond-shaped weave with a three-dimensional effect, adding depth and texture to the interior surfaces. Each piece undergoes a rigorous production process, including curing under pressure and multiple layers of lacquer. Clients who choose the Immersive Seating option with a center console can further personalize their Black Badge Ghost Series II with the infinity symbol, rendered in aerospace-grade aluminum and applied to the rear Technical Carbon waterfall section.
The dramatic Duality Twill, an innovative rayon fabric made from bamboo, was inspired by the bamboo groves near Sir Henry Royce’s former home on the Côte d’Azur. This bold material can be embroidered with a ‘Duality’ graphic, representing the marque’s founders’ initials. A complete Duality Twill interior can incorporate over two million stitches and 11 miles of thread, creating an extraordinary finish that can be further personalized with 51 different thread colors for daring contrasts or subtle monochrome effects. Another option for customization is the Placed Perforation technique, where intricate patterns are created by perforating the seat leather with precision. Inspired by the shifting clouds over Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood home, these perforations vary in size to create three-dimensional artworks on the seat surfaces.
The Black Badge Planar Suspension system, used to harness the additional power, integrates continuously variable, electronically controlled shock absorbers and self-levelling air struts. The Upper Wishbone Damper unit, placed above the front suspension, further enhances agility while maintaining the effortless ‘magic carpet ride’ that defines the Rolls-Royce driving experience. For added control, the brake pedal travel has been decreased, and the bite point has been raised, responding to client requests for a more engaging and potent driving experience.
