Rolls-Royce Phantom Goldfinger is a one-of-one masterpiece
The Rolls-Royce Phantom Goldfinger, an exclusive tribute to Goldfinger, merges 18- and 24-carat gold detailing with bespoke design elements inspired by the iconic 1964 Bond film. ShareRolls-Royce Motor Cars has unveiled a one-of-a-kind Phantom Extended, celebrating 60 years of the James Bond classic Goldfinger. This extraordinary vehicle, commissioned to honour the 1964 film and its antagonist Auric Goldfinger, showcases the pinnacle of Rolls-Royce’s bespoke craftsmanship and is packed with elaborate features that pay homage to the iconic moments and characters of the film.
The exterior finish, a faithful recreation of the 1937 Phantom III Sedanca de Ville used in Goldfinger, is a standout feature. Rolls-Royce’s paint specialists crafted a unique ‘long-side’ two-tone design in a striking yellow and black scheme, precisely matched to Goldfinger’s Phantom. The iconic Spirit of Ecstasy at the prow is plated in 18-carat gold, partially silvered to evoke Goldfinger’s scheme of smuggling gold concealed within the body panels of his Phantom in the film. Special attention has been paid to every detail, including the 21-inch black disc wheels with silver ‘floating’ hubcaps, which subtly recall the film’s vintage vehicle.
Inside, the car’s interior is meticulously appointed with details inspired by the film and Goldfinger’s obsession with gold. Rolls-Royce’s artisans crafted the centre console to include a concealed solid 18-carat gold bar in the shape of a Phantom ‘Speedform,’ illuminated to draw attention to its craftsmanship. For added intrigue, the glovebox bears the immortal line, “This is gold, Mr. Bond. All my life, I have been in love with its colour, its brilliance, its divine heaviness,” debossed in gold. The tread plates and speaker frets echo this theme with gold-plated inscriptions in the same font used in the 1964 film, creating a sense of continuity between Rolls-Royce’s masterful design and the cinematic legend.
The pièce de résistance of this Phantom, however, lies in the intricately designed Gallery – a bespoke, three-dimensional isoline map of Switzerland’s Furka Pass. This artwork spans the entire front fascia and is inspired by the scene where Bond tails Goldfinger along the winding mountain roads to his smelting plant. Crafted in darkened stainless steel, with contour lines revealing bright metal beneath, the map’s precision celebrates the artistry and technical prowess of Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke Collective. The bespoke clock in the centre of the Gallery, inspired by Bond’s signature gun-barrel sequence, completes the film-inspired decor.
The Starlight Headliner adds another layer of cinematic nostalgia. Custom-made to depict the night sky over the Furka Pass as it appeared on July 11, 1964, during the film’s final day of shooting in Switzerland, the headliner incorporates 719 stars that emit a gentle gold glow. Eight shooting stars are integrated for a stunning effect, each one individually placed by hand to create a perfect replica of the constellations on that iconic night.
Further personalisation continues with the motor car’s lavish seating and console. The upholstery, finished in Navy leather and Royal Walnut veneer, showcases intricate gold stitching. Gold-plated air vents, controls, and the VIN plaque engraved with “007” further enrich the Bond-themed design. The boot lid of the Phantom holds a special touch for Bond enthusiasts: a gold-plated golf putter, replicating the one Goldfinger wielded in the famous Stoke Park golf scene. This club, adorned with a custom “AG” monogram, is mounted inside the boot, a nod to Bond’s first encounter with Goldfinger. The luggage compartment itself is fitted with a device inspired by Bond’s Q Branch tracker, which projects the “007” logo onto the floor when the boot lid is open.
Unique touches continue with the addition of red, blue, green, and yellow umbrellas in the rear doors, mirroring Oddjob’s colourful umbrella from the same golf scene. To cap it off, the original British number plate “AU 1,” referencing gold’s chemical symbol, has been secured for Phantom Goldfinger, adding authenticity and exclusivity to this rare collector’s vehicle. This final touch ensures the motor car remains forever tied to the legacy of Goldfinger and the Rolls-Royce Phantom III featured in the film.
