The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed debuts as a limited two-seater performance car with an open design, advanced aerodynamics, and a powerful 4.0-litre V8 engine. Share

The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed has celebrated its world premiere at the Formula 1™ Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as the first model in the limited Mythos series. Strictly capped at 250 units, this two-seater performance vehicle redefines the driving experience with its radically open design that eliminates both roof and windscreen. The PureSpeed is a homage to Mercedes-Benz’s illustrious motorsport history, delivering an unfiltered connection to the road, the elements, and cutting-edge automotive engineering.

Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, described the PureSpeed as “the most direct way to experience performance and fun at the wheel.” He highlighted the car’s design, which reinterprets legendary racing aesthetics while embodying the AMG ethos of emotional, high-performance vehicles that captivate at first glance and behind the wheel.

Powered by an AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine, the PureSpeed generates 430 kW (585 PS) and 800 Nm of torque. This powertrain propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 315 km/h.

The design of the PureSpeed blends the sleek aesthetics of the Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar with nods to classic racing vehicles. Its low silhouette, long bonnet, and shark-nose front end project a timeless yet aggressive look. Aerodynamically optimised elements, such as the partially transparent deflectors and visible carbon fibre accents, ensure both function and style. The boot lid, rear diffuser, and side sills further reflect meticulous aerodynamic engineering.

The design pays homage to iconic Mercedes models. Behind the seats, scoops featuring the AMG emblem evoke the 300 SLR, the legendary car driven to victory at the 1955 Mille Miglia. The exclusive Silver Arrow finish in mystic silver magno underscores this connection to racing heritage. For enthusiasts seeking even more flair, an optional motorsport styling package offers finishes inspired by historic race cars, such as the red Mercedes that won the 1924 Targa Florio. The package includes the number ‘10’ on the front wing to commemorate this milestone.

The PureSpeed’s interior blends luxury and performance with a two-tone crystal white and black theme. AMG Performance seats, upholstered in fine leather with flowing decorative stitching, provide exceptional lateral support. The area behind the seats features carbon fibre accents, while leather pads continue the flowing design. Deep-pile AMG floor mats echo the interior’s color and stitching.

A bespoke IWC Schaffhausen analogue clock adorns the dashboard. Encased in a floating carbon fibre base, the clock features an AMG-specific dial illuminated for optimal visibility. Completing the interior experience, a Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound System with 15 speakers delivers a concert-like atmosphere.

The PureSpeed’s exclusive nature extends to its safety features. The innovative HALO system, a robust tubular steel bracket that bifurcates behind the occupants, is complemented by concealed roll bars beneath aerodynamic scoops. Even the helmets, which come color-matched to the vehicle, feature an integrated intercom system allowing for clear communication at high speeds and smartphone connectivity for calls and music.
