The RSR Project shows off its latest vintage Porsche 911 in Gulf Blue
The RSR Project's latest creation is a meticulously restored and modified 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR, featuring the iconic Gulf Blue and orange livery, priced at $375,000. ShareThere are many Porsche restomod specialists, with Singer and Theon Design being particularly well-known for their craftsmanship. However, smaller outfits like The RSR Project also produce remarkable cars. Often, restomods can be excessively modernised, but The RSR Project stands out for its restraint. This New York-based firm recently unveiled its latest $375,000 build, adorned in the iconic Gulf livery and equipped with Fuchs-style alloy wheels. While the Gulf theme is frequently used, the rest of the car’s design remains tasteful and balanced.
The journey begins by selecting a Porsche 911 from between 1984 and 1989. The chosen car must have a galvanised body, be free of rust, and have an accident-free history. The car is then stripped down to its core, removing the glass, suspension, engine, gearbox, and interior to prepare for the build.
The RSR Project adds steel flares that blend seamlessly into the original body. Customers can opt for various add-ons, including the famous ducktail spoiler, as seen on this particular Gulf Blue 911. This colour scheme is popular, being the fourth car by the brand to feature the orange-and-blue paintwork. The car is fitted with one of two 15-inch wheel designs, both wrapped in Michelin TB-15 tires.
Inside, The RSR Project makes several key upgrades. New seats, a classic dashboard, and lightweight carpets are installed. This build features seats with a stylish houndstooth pattern, complementing the car’s character. Additionally, a new headliner, sun visors, RS door panels, and fresh front and rear windscreens are added. The owner also opted for a $10,000 air conditioning system, with compressors and condensers discreetly integrated into the dashboard.
Although specific power and performance details haven’t been shared, The RSR Project offers a choice of 3.2-, 3.4-, and 3.5-liter engines. Depending on the client’s preferences and budget, the company can add PMP or custom fuel injectors; otherwise, they remain stock. All gaskets and rubbers are replaced, and the suspension is rebuilt with new shocks and bushings to enhance handling. Stronger four-piston brakes are available as an additional option.
Pricing for these custom builds starts at $375,000, and each project takes 12 to 15 months to complete. While this is a significant investment, comparable to the cost of three new 911 Carreras, these vehicles are more than just cars; they are pieces of art designed to be driven with passion.
