Six Senses is set to establish a transformative presence on Grand Bahama with a development that intertwines sustainability, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. The project, designed to enhance local tourism, investment, and development, aims to create a positive and lasting impact on the island. At its core, the initiative seeks to provide significant employment opportunities for Grand Bahamians, promote sustainable practices, and protect the region’s natural beauty for the benefit of both residents and visitors.

The resort’s modular and prefabricated units aim to minimise environmental impact, aligning with the project’s ambitious sustainability goals. Speaking about the design approach, 3XN’s founder, Kim Herforth Nielson, remarked, “This is a great opportunity to investigate new construction methods and define a specific and new approach to sustainability in The Bahamas – both for the buildings and to respect the exceptional local nature.”

At the heart of the project is a resort village designed by renowned architectural firm 3XN. This development will feature 45 waterfront and canal villas, offering guests stunning views along 2,400 feet of beachfrontage and water on three sides. Beyond accommodation, the village will include a signature restaurant, a beach venue, a boathouse, and a pool bar. Future plans for the 36-acre site include direct access to a new marina, further elevating its appeal.

Neil Jacobs, CEO of Six Senses, highlighted the importance of reflecting local culture and landscape in the project. “We’re eager to reflect the authenticity of Bahamian lifestyle, culture, and landscape through organic pathways and architectural design to create a community blended with our signature ethos of wellness, sustainability, crafted guest experiences, and emotional hospitality,” he said.

In addition to its accommodation, the resort village will host a variety of facilities, including an Experience Centre, artist studios, meeting spaces, a fitness centre, and the Six Senses Spa. An Earth Lab and a Marine Research and Dive Centre will further enhance the village, with a focus on coastal resiliency, native planting, and land restoration. Additional land and sea areas will be preserved to safeguard the island’s unique biosphere.

The project places a strong emphasis on practical, actionable solutions to modern challenges. A multidisciplinary team of experts in coastal resilience, marine ecology, and sustainable design is working in collaboration with Bahamian consultants to ensure local knowledge is integral to every phase of the development. The effort is led by Weller Development Partners and Pegasus Capital Advisors, organisations with a proven history of sustainable and socially conscious projects. A key focus of the development is engaging the local community by recruiting talent from nearby areas and partnering with Blue Action Lab to provide job training and skills enhancement.

Grand Bahama’s accessibility and charm make it an ideal location for the project’s branded residences. The island is under an hour by plane or 2.5 hours by boat from Miami or Fort Lauderdale, offering convenience for international travellers. Designed by acclaimed architect Olson Kundig, the project will include approximately 20 branded residences, providing owners with a luxurious retreat close to the vibrant city of Freeport.

Grand Bahama offers an appealing mix of modern infrastructure, vibrant city life, and natural wonders. Outside Freeport, the island boasts expansive mangrove forests, sea caves, and sandy cays, providing countless opportunities for exploration and connection with nature.
