Inside Spice of Life, an ultra-lavish nine-bedroom villa in the Caribbean
Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Hotel in St. Lucia, debuts Spice of Life, a nine-bedroom luxury villa featuring world-class art and private amenities. ShareSugar Beach, a Viceroy Hotel, has introduced its most exclusive accommodation to date. Spice of Life, a nine-bedroom private residence, expands the resort’s collection of luxury accommodations while adding a distinctive art-focused experience. Designed by Botelho Wood Architects, the 35,000-square-foot villa offers panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, with St. Lucia’s iconic Piton Mountains framing the landscape.
Located on the southwestern shore of the island, Sugar Beach is known for its prime setting between the volcanic peaks. The resort spans 100 acres, featuring 130 cottages and a selection of oceanfront villas. Spice of Life is the latest addition, accommodating up to 18 guests. The residence is named after a book written by Sir Harold Mitchell, grandfather of the property’s owners, and is designed to offer a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor living.
The villa consists of two wings connected by a central living area, which includes a lounge, a long dining table, and a commercial-grade kitchen. The entire space opens onto a stepped pool deck, maximizing ocean views. A private chef is available to prepare meals, while outdoor cooking stations and pavilion dining areas allow for relaxed al fresco dining.
Each bedroom is uniquely designed, furnished with either Emperor King or twin beds to suit different guest arrangements. Most rooms face the ocean, with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors leading to spacious terraces. The primary suite, located on the upper level, includes an office, an oversized closet, and a private balcony with unobstructed sea views.
Art plays a central role in the villa’s design. Sugar Beach is home to an extensive collection of contemporary works, and Spice of Life elevates this with pieces from renowned artists. A James Turrell light sculpture is the focal point of the dining room, visible through the villa’s glass frontage and across the infinity pool. The collection includes works by Yayoi Kusama, Salvador Dalí, Anish Kapoor, Damien Hirst, Daniel Arsham, Julian Opie, and Tom Sachs. The interiors are intentionally understated, allowing the artwork to remain the highlight.
Beyond its design, Spice of Life offers a range of amenities. Guests have access to a private gym, an exclusive beach area, and dedicated concierge and culinary teams. They can also utilize Sugar Beach’s facilities, which include eight restaurants, a fitness centre, and the recently opened Racquet Club with tennis, padel, and pickleball courts.
The Rainforest Spa, known for its treehouse-style treatment rooms, extends its services to the villa. Guests can enjoy treatments in private stone outdoor showers. Additional experiences, such as art classes and chocolate-making workshops at the Cocoa Mill, can be arranged, and every booking includes a private fireworks display from the dock below the residence.
