Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is poised to open a new luxury resort and branded residences on Puerto Rico’s southwestern coast at Boquerón Bay in Cabo Rojo. Scheduled for a 2028 debut, the Mandarin Oriental Esencia, Puerto Rico will be the Group’s third Caribbean property, solidifying its presence in this highly sought-after region. The project is part of Esencia, a modern coastal community developed by Reuben Brothers and Three Rules Capital.

The resort’s location at Boquerón Bay offers unparalleled access to Puerto Rico’s natural wonders. Visitors will have a front-row seat to the area’s celebrated beaches, protected mangroves, and serene lagoons. Known for its vibrant culinary scene, abundant outdoor activities, and a focus on wellness, Boquerón Bay is an ideal fit for the Mandarin Oriental’s luxury brand.

The resort will house 106 rooms and suites, each designed with thoughtful luxury and featuring a private outdoor space such as a balcony, terrace, or garden. A selection of suites will also include plunge pools, while villas will offer private pools to elevate the sense of exclusivity and comfort.

Esencia’s residential options are equally impressive. There will be 83 beachfront villas, some perched on hillsides or along cliffs, offering sweeping views of the Bay. An additional 200 residences will be available in boutique six-story buildings thoughtfully integrated into the natural surroundings. These homes will be conveniently close to the community’s town center and include private amenities while benefiting from access to the hotel’s world-class services and facilities.

Mandarin Oriental Esencia will feature five distinct dining experiences, showcasing international cuisines with local influences. Among these options will be a beach club, a poolside restaurant and bar, and a sophisticated lounge. The Spa at Mandarin Oriental will be a centerpiece of the resort, offering a wellness sanctuary complete with signature treatments, a state-of-the-art fitness center, an outdoor lap pool, and a beauty salon.

For events and celebrations, the resort will offer elegant venues that blend indoor and outdoor spaces, creating memorable settings with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Guests will have access to a variety of leisure activities, including a Rees Jones-designed 18-hole golf course.

The design of the Mandarin Oriental Esencia is entrusted to Studio MK27, a São Paulo-based firm led by Marcio Kogan.
