Mandarin Oriental to open an urban oasis in the heart of Rome in 2026

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is set to open a luxurious new property in Rome by 2026, featuring ten 19th-century villas and expanding its prestigious Italian portfolio. Share

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group recently announced the development of a remarkable luxury property in the heart of Rome, scheduled to open in 2026. This upcoming sanctuary will be the Group’s fifth Italian property, joining its existing hotels in Milan and Lake Como, as well as the recently announced projects in Cortina and Porto Cervo. The project is a partnership with Merope Asset Management, a leading Italian real estate investment and development company.

Mandarin Oriental, Rome will offer a unique experience in the city, with the hotel set within ten 19th-century villas that were originally built as residences for wealthy Romans. These villas are surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, providing a serene and private neighbourhood atmosphere. Despite the tranquil setting, guests will be just a short walk from Rome’s major attractions and archaeological sites.

The villas will house 108 guestrooms and suites, many of which will offer views of the gardens or iconic city landmarks. Several suites will include private gardens and terraces, enhancing the urban retreat experience. The interiors will be designed by Gilles & Boissier, an award-winning French design duo known for their sophisticated and contemporary style. Their past projects include Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech and Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid.

Dining options at the hotel will be crafted by DimoreStudio, with landscaping by Parc Nouveau. Guests will have six restaurants and bars to choose from, including options for al fresco dining and a unique stand-alone dining concept in one of the villas. The Mandarin Bar, situated on a large rooftop terrace, will offer stunning views of the city and is expected to become a popular destination.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental will offer a wide range of the Group’s acclaimed wellness experiences in a peaceful setting. Fitness enthusiasts can enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, while swimmers can take advantage of large indoor and outdoor pools set among the landscaped gardens. The spa will also feature six treatment rooms, a VIP treatment suite, thermal rooms, and a dedicated sundeck, catering to those seeking relaxation and pampering.

The hotel’s location, between Via Piemonte and Via Sallustiana, is within The Gardens of Sallust, an ancient Roman archaeological site known for its magnificent landscaping and historical charm. This site provides visitors with a glimpse into Rome’s grandeur. Additionally, many of Rome’s cultural heritage sites, as well as premium retail and leisure offerings such as Via Veneto, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Roman Forum, and Piazza Navona, are nearby.

Laurent Kleitman, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, stated, “Rome is home to many historical and architectural treasures and a destination of choice for luxury travellers. We will take the same meticulous approach in Rome as we have with our other historic properties, ensuring that we honour and respect local artisanal craftsmanship and Roman cultural heritage, while incorporating the finest luxury, contemporary comfort, sustainability standards, and the legendary service for which Mandarin Oriental is renowned. We are delighted to be extending the Mandarin Oriental brand in Italy and look forward to working with our partners to create a truly unique landmark in the heart of the city.”

This new development promises to bring a distinctive blend of luxury, history, and contemporary elegance to Rome. With its prime location, exceptional amenities, and commitment to honouring local heritage and craftsmanship, the hotel is set to become a new icon in Rome’s hospitality scene.
