Mandarin Oriental has expanded its portfolio of luxury villa rentals with Villa Aegean, a five-bedroom property overlooking the Imerovigli Caldera in Santorini. This marks the brand’s 26th addition to its Mandarin Oriental Exceptional Homes collection, which includes properties in destinations such as Puglia and Phuket.

Designed by Elastic Architects, the villa integrates Santorini’s volcanic landscape into its architecture. Ria Vogiatzi, the lead architect, describes the project as “a journey that flows like lava,” referencing the use of local black basalt stone in its construction. The entrance is sculptural, designed to channel wind and enhance natural cooling, a modern take on the island’s traditional architecture. Vaulted ceilings and an open-plan layout create a sense of spaciousness, with interiors that blend modern convenience with local craftsmanship.

A key design element is the outdoor area, where a heated infinity pool, built in black stone, reflects the sky and surroundings. A rooftop lounge provides an elevated vantage point for Santorini’s famous sunsets. Other outdoor amenities include a shaded dining area and a bar with a barbecue setup.

Inside, the villa offers large common areas, including a living room with minimalist furnishings, a dining room, and a well-equipped kitchen. A temperature-controlled wine cellar adds to the culinary experience. Guests have access to a gym, a sauna, and a media room. The five en-suite bedrooms provide privacy, with three featuring private balconies and sunset views.

The villa is staffed with a full-time manager, and daily housekeeping follows Mandarin Oriental’s hospitality standards. A private chef is available on request, crafting menus that highlight seasonal ingredients. Guests also benefit from concierge services for itinerary planning, airport transfers, and local experiences.

Santorini offers a range of activities, and the villa’s location provides easy access to key sites. Oia and Fira, known for their blue-domed churches and traditional architecture, are short drives away. History enthusiasts can explore Akrotiri, an ancient Minoan settlement, or the ruins of Ancient Thera.

Outdoor options include hiking from Fira to Oia, a boat tour to the volcanic islets, and water activities such as snorkelling and jet skiing. The island’s wineries, including Hatzidakis and Sigalas, offer tastings of Santorini’s signature Assyrtiko wine. The property is well-suited for families and couples, with additional amenities for children, including a cot, high chair, and books.
