Dynamic Fukuoka on the island of Kyushu in southern Japan is a key flight hub in Asia with a youthful energy that befits its thriving startup scene. Situated in the heart of downtown in the main tower of the Fukuoka Daimyo Garden City complex, The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka is a sophisticated retreat with views across Hakata Bay, six dining venues that complement the city’s renown as a lively food capital, and playful references to the local textile art throughout its spaces. Conveniently accessed by air, land, or sea, the luxury hotel can be reached in less than fifteen minutes by car or public transport from Fukuoka Airport, the bullet train serviced by Hakata Station and Hakata Port.

Historically, Fukuoka was a key waypoint of Silk Road trade routes and remains a major gateway between Japan and the rest of Asia. The city is famous for annual festivals like the 800-year-old Hakata Gion Yamakasa summer festival, designated by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. Other attractions include beautiful beaches, natural parks, and historic sites such as the 12th-century Shofukuji temple and Fukuoka Castle ruins. The hotel is adjacent to Tenjin, the trendy heart of the city, a rising tech hub filled with shops, bars, cafés, and nightlife. The area is 15 minutes by car or public transportation to Hakata Station, Hakata Port, or Fukuoka Airport, which links the city to Tokyo.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the expansion of The Ritz-Carlton with the opening of the brand’s seventh hotel in Japan,” said Tina Edmundson, President of luxury for Marriott International. “Since we first debuted The Ritz-Carlton in Japan in 1997, the brand has been consistently recognized for its legendary luxury and service, beloved by locals and visitors to Japan alike. We are excited to further strengthen our luxury positioning in the country by entering a new and emerging destination such as Fukuoka.”

Occupying the nine topmost floors in a 25-story glass tower designed by Kume Sekkei of Tokyo, The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka’s interior design and art are inspired by Fukuoka’s traditional yarn-dyed silk and kimono weaving craft, “Hakata-ori.” Melbourne-based Layan Architects + Designers curated the interior spaces, incorporating folding screens, sculptures, paintings, and woven textiles by local artisans. Expansive views of the Genkai Sea and surrounding hills create an exceptional sense of place.

The hotel features 167 generously sized guestrooms on the 19th to 23rd floors, including 20 suites that start at nearly 550 square feet. Fukuoka Skyline rooms offer city views, while Park View rooms overlook Ohori Park’s greenery. Bay View rooms provide vistas of Hakata Bay. The nearly 1,500-square-foot Presidential Suite and the more than 2,000-square-foot Ritz-Carlton Suite each feature a dining room and kitchen for private meals. The 24th floor houses The Ritz-Carlton Club, a private sanctuary for guests in club and suite categories, offering five daily culinary presentations and live jazz performances on Saturdays.

Dining options reflect Fukuoka’s vibrant food culture. Viridis offers creative farm-to-sky Western cuisine using local ingredients, while Genjyu showcases kaiseki, sushi, and teppanyaki. The Lobby Lounge & Bar serves refreshments and light meals throughout the day, and Bay provides chargrilled dishes and tapas on its terrace with views of Hakata Bay. Diva, a refined café, offers light meals, desserts, and afternoon tea featuring Kyushu’s celebrated green teas.

Two versatile banquet venues, the 1,100-square-foot Ritz-Carlton Studio and the 3,600-square-foot Ritz-Carlton Ballroom, can accommodate various gatherings. The Ballroom features an LED screen for spectacular presentations. The hotel’s Chapel combines Western and Japanese influences for wedding ceremonies.

The Ritz-Carlton Spa, located on the 24th floor, includes an indoor pool with bay views, a gymnasium, and private treatment rooms using local ingredients and ESPA products. The hotel also offers child-friendly amenities and activities from the Ritz Kids program, including guided excursions and craft experiences based on nature, exploration, responsibility, and culture.
