Six Senses Telluride is set to celebrate the natural beauty of the San Juan Mountains

Six Senses Telluride, opening in 2028, will bring a luxury resort and residences to Colorado's Mountain Village with a focus on outdoor adventure and wellness. Share

Renowned for its stunning outdoor adventures, Telluride ranks among the most desirable mountain towns in the Colorado Rockies. This former mining town, designated as a National Historic Landmark District, holds a unique charm with its festivals, arts scene, and community events. Six Senses Telluride will soon take root just above the town in Mountain Village, tucked into a dramatic box canyon surrounded by the rugged 14,000-foot peaks of the San Juan Mountains. Offering seamless access to a vast ski area in winter and a natural playground in spring and summer, the location has become a prime choice for vacation homes, with wildflowers blanketing the slopes during warmer months.

Embracing the area’s striking natural beauty, Six Senses will blend the grandeur of the surrounding landscape with refined interiors that mirror the elegance of a perfectly executed ski turn. The 77-key resort and 24 branded residences will feature an airy, sophisticated design that harmonises with the setting, a key factor in the project’s approval alongside its LEED Silver certification. Like all Six Senses properties, sustainability is central to the resort’s operations. As part of IHG Hotel & Resorts’ Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, Six Senses Telluride represents IHG’s first luxury resort and residences in North America’s Mountain West.

Neil Jacobs, CEO of Six Senses, noted, “Becoming an active part of the community is hugely important to us, and what better place to begin our North American mountain adventure than Telluride, with Mountain Village’s global sophistication and the old-world charm of the town below. Having lived in the Colorado Rockies in the 1980s, I can affirm that the mountain environment aligns perfectly with our values of wellness and sustainable development.”

The development team, led by Matthew Shear and David Jaskel at The Vault Home Collection, has closely collaborated with Six Senses to bring a distinctive outdoor and wellness-driven hospitality and residential experience to Telluride. The design takes inspiration from the area’s seasonal changes, influencing the resort’s master plan by Vault Design and guiding the aesthetic for the guest rooms, family rooms, and suites. The exteriors, compliant with town standards, feature natural materials like cedar siding and local stone. Rose Ink Workshop’s interior design uses a light, warm palette that celebrates the purity of the natural surroundings.

Commenting on the partnership, Matthew said, “We’re thrilled to partner with Six Senses. The breathtaking Colorado landscape, prime snow conditions, and the quaint community atmosphere of Mountain Village inspired us to establish roots here. This project embodies our vision in collaboration with Six Senses to create a premier mountain destination for discerning travellers and residents worldwide. Our shared goal is to make Six Senses Telluride truly spectacular.”

The 24 branded residences will range from two to five bedrooms, with some including a den. For days spent indoors, residents can enjoy amenities like a gym, cinema, lounge, and games room. From first chair to après-ski, winter at Six Senses Telluride is all about seamless mountain experiences. The extensive ski concierge service will have guests and residents on the slopes without lifting a finger, while still offering curated adventures. As the snow melts, the resort’s Experiences Team will guide guests through the best-kept secrets for hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, and dining.

The food and beverage offerings will include a speciality restaurant, Omakase dining, the only rooftop venue with a pool in Telluride, and a speakeasy bar. A lively retail space, market hall, and conference centre will be open to the surrounding community.

After a day in the mountains, the Six Senses Spa Telluride will help guests unwind. The spa will offer saunas, steam rooms, hammams, and cryotherapy baths for rejuvenation. Treatment rooms will blend advanced recovery techniques with traditional healing methods, using sound and the spiritual energy of touch. Wellness begins with the resort’s team, with accommodations that go beyond standard facilities to create creative, inviting spaces for staff to recharge and connect.

Six Senses Telluride is a scenic 387-mile drive from Denver International Airport, 68 miles from Montrose Airport, and seven miles from Telluride International Airport. A free pedestrian gondola connects Mountain Village to the historic town below in a 13-minute ride, while also providing ski access. This project expands Six Senses’ presence in the U.S., joining previously announced locations like Six Senses Napa and Six Senses South Carolina Islands. With the opening of Six Senses La Sagesse in April and upcoming launches like Six Senses Grand Bahama and Six Senses Xala in Mexico, the brand’s portfolio continues to grow. Six Senses Telluride is set to open in 2028.
