The Beaumont Mayfair recaptures the spirit of old-world luxury
The Beaumont Mayfair reopens with 101 redesigned rooms, a new restaurant, and over 600 artworks from renowned 20th and 21st-century artists. ShareThe Beaumont Mayfair, an iconic London hotel located in the heart of Mayfair, has officially reopened following an extensive multi-million-pound renovation in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Overlooking Brown Hart Gardens, this landmark has long been known for its glamorous 1920s-inspired Art Deco design, and it is now entering a new era under the leadership of newly appointed CEO Stuart Procter. Procter, with over 20 years of industry experience, aims to cement The Beaumont’s status as one of London’s most prestigious five-star hotels, and his vision will be accompanied by further investments and updates that promise to enhance the guest experience.
Designed by the late French architect Thierry Despont, The Beaumont Mayfair retains its distinctive style, blending the grandeur of classic 1920s hotels with a modern touch. The hotel features 101 rooms and suites, including the renowned Anthony Gormley’s ROOM—a unique inhabitable sculpture that combines art and architecture.
The building was originally designed in 1925 as Macy’s, one of the first garages built specifically for shoppers, providing parking for customers of the nearby Selfridges department store. The architects behind this design were Wimperis and Simpson, who also designed Fortnum & Mason and Winfield House. The garage was featured in the 1927 RIBA Exhibition of Modern Architecture and stands out for its grand colonnaded entrance and a facade of white stone that blends neo-classical and neo-Georgian aesthetics. This historical significance, combined with its unique architectural treatment, has earned the building a Grade II listing.
Each room is home to an exquisite collection of original art, books, and luxurious marble bathrooms, while offering modern amenities and timeless comfort. A standout in the hotel’s collection is the newly redesigned Roosevelt Suite, a luxurious space adorned with silk window treatments, bespoke furnishings, and a private terrace that offers panoramic views of London’s skyline. This suite also boasts a collection of 20th-century and contemporary art, with works by Alexander Calder, Robert Motherwell, and Kate Boxer, making it a tribute to Franklin D. Roosevelt, an avid supporter of the arts.
One of the major highlights of the hotel is its impressive art collection. Over the past two years, The Beaumont has worked with Zuleika Gallery to assemble over 600 pieces of art, featuring celebrated British, European, and American artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. The collection includes works by renowned figures such as Georges Braque, Joan Miró, Sonia Delaunay, and Man Ray, alongside contemporary artists like Bridget Riley and Cornelia Parker. This thoughtfully curated collection offers guests a glimpse into 100 years of artistic, social, and cultural evolution. Several site-specific commissions, including works by Nancy Cadogan and Nicola Green, further add to the hotel’s artistic allure.
In addition to its exceptional accommodations and art collection, The Beaumont offers a range of dining options. The hotel is home to Gatsby’s Room, a chic space where guests can enjoy a Champagne Afternoon Tea, as well as the popular Le Magritte Bar, known for its extensive collection of Bourbon, classic cocktails, and Cuban cigars. The charming Terrace allows guests to enjoy alfresco dining in the heart of Mayfair. Adding to its culinary offerings, this September the hotel will launch Rosi, a new flagship restaurant that celebrates British comfort food made from seasonal ingredients. The restaurant’s interiors have been designed by British artist Luke Edward Hall, whose murals depict scenes of a day in London with his signature romantic style.
Guests at The Beaumont can also indulge in the luxurious Art Deco Hammam and Spa, inspired by the Turkish baths of the Royal Automobile Club and the New York YMCA. The spa features black and white marble mosaics, a traditional hammam table, a sauna, a steam room, four treatment rooms, and a relaxation area. With its prime location in Mayfair, The Beaumont Mayfair offers easy access to London’s finest cultural and historical landmarks, from world-class museums to upscale dining and shopping districts. Since its original opening in 2014, the hotel has hosted prominent figures from around the world, making it a prominent name for old-school hospitality, discreet luxury, and timeless style.
