Langham Hospitality Group is set to transform one of Bangkok’s most iconic landmarks into a luxurious destination with the opening of The Langham, Customs House. Nestled on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River, this historic site will undergo a stunning revival, merging timeless heritage with modern luxury in the heart of the city.

Langham Hospitality Group (LHG) and Rabbit Holdings, an affiliate of BTS Group, have announced plans to open the new hotel in 2026 which will be located in the Bang Rak District of Bangkok, featuring a stunning view of the Chao Praya River. At the heart of the development will be the city’s historic Customs House, a heritage building that will be carefully restored as part of the project. Alongside the Customs House will stand a former post office, now repurposed to include high-end amenities, while the property’s 78 guestrooms will be housed in a modern structure.

Customs House, originally built in 1888, holds significant historical value. Designed by architect Joachim Grassi, the building showcases neo-Palladian architecture with features such as teak floors, a grand central staircase, and an impressive four-story hallway. It once served as a gateway to Thailand, hosting royal family events and celebrations, including an event marking the return of King Rama V from his European travels.

The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok will pay tribute to the Renaissance era of Siam, combining Thai cultural elements with the building’s Western architectural features. This blend of tradition and modernity will be reflected throughout the property, from the guest rooms and river-facing ballrooms to the spa and communal spaces. The design will honour Thailand’s cultural heritage while delivering the luxury for which The Langham is known.

The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok will offer guests signature elements that define the brand’s luxury hospitality. The property will feature an outpost of The Langham, Hong Kong’s three Michelin-star Cantonese restaurant, T’ang Court, as well as a destination bar and a venue dedicated to world-class pastry creations. Chuan Spa, the brand’s renowned wellness retreat, will also be part of the offerings, ensuring guests can relax and rejuvenate in style.

The partnership between LHG and Rabbit Holdings aims to preserve the historic significance of Customs House while incorporating contemporary luxury. The restoration process will respect the original architectural details of the building while enhancing them with modern design and facilities. This combination of old and new will offer guests a one-of-a-kind experience that celebrates both the history and future of this iconic landmark.

The project, led by Rabbit Holdings, leverages its real estate expertise under BTS Group’s MATCH platform. The aim is to elevate the cultural and economic significance of the Bang Rak area. LHG, selected to operate the hotel, brings its experience and proven success in heritage conservation to this ambitious venture.

“We are thrilled to appoint Langham Hospitality Group to manage the property. The company’s dedication to creating timeless luxury hotels and demonstrated success in heritage conservation makes it the ideal partner to further our vision to set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the region and honour the rich cultural heritage of Customs House and the Bang Rak District. – Mr. Kavin Kanjanapas, Director of Rabbit Holdings”

This collaboration is not the first of its kind for LHG. The group has successfully developed several heritage conservation hotel projects, such as The Langham, Boston, which occupies a former Federal Reserve Bank building, and The Langham, Chicago, located in the iconic Mies van der Rohe building. LHG’s portfolio also includes The Langham, Pasadena, a property with a rich Hollywood history, and an upcoming project in Venice, where an old glass factory on Murano Island is being transformed into a luxury hotel.
